NEW TIMES FOR NEW IDEAS WORKSHOP WITH SANDRA
When we are hungry, the obvious solution is to eat something.
If we are restless, it pays to get up and walk around.
Is stress any different?
Along the way, it seems as though we got confused about the best way to deal with the stress that comes from work, from projects, relationships and the challenges that life throws on us. Push through the stress and on the other side, everything will be ok and then reassurance will follow. The reassurance of success, money or even survival. The reassurance of external motivation or simply relief. Now that everything is OK, no need to be stressed; until the next time which might be tomorrow.
Some people manage to get their projects done without this sort of stress and without external motivation. They are not using the search for reassurance as fuel. The solution to stress isn’t reassurance. It is accurately understanding the world as it is, and making choices about what we do and how we do it. But far more than that, we relieve stress by making choices about the stories we tell ourselves.
It’s not easy to change your story and it is not easy either to let go of reassurance. And the external forces might not be changeable. Meditation, sport and spending time in nature, is what we might do already; but why does the stress never go away? Because we cannot escape from stress but we can reframe it and find the information what the stress wants to tell us; and that’s very powerful.
The key to success in any discipline is to build on foundational ideas and practices, and in this sense, stress is no different.
What are the topics in this workshop?
– we start with the fundamentals of the autonomic nervous system , especially the far-reaching implications of neuroplasticity and what they mean in practice
– in turn, this puts us in a good position to exercise some foundational strategies for success, knowledge, flexibility, specificity, and continuous adaptation.
-these qualities will take us on our journey to skill, equanimity and intelligent action in the face of ambiguity and uncertainty
This is how the workshop is structured:
-Lecture & Documentation; the fundamentals of Adaptation, use and abuse of the autonomic nervous system, the power of plasticity, tipping point and warning signs, real alarm/false alarm, sustainable strategies and antidotes
-Change the story by how you relate to; uncertainty, variability, time, incomplete/imperfect knowledge and the unknown and learn how setbacks, frustration, tension, resistance, serendipity, luck, emotions and deep connection to ones psyche help you to find a selection of remedies and solutions that we can use to make our stress work for us
– we will be doing a Yoga class and practical exercises as well
This workshop will help you reframe your experience, broaden your perspective and give you more options. It will help you make stress more tolerable, more productive, and more meaningful. You might even come to the conclusion that stress is an ally that can work in your favour.
This is the time to compose new cultures.
