Anatomy In Motion: The Push & Pull Of Gravity

Gravity is not something that simply happens to us – it is a living relationship in which we stand.
Our bodies continuously respond, reorganise and adapt. Through the interplay of yielding, lift, ground reaction, breath and fascia, we explore the living architecture of the body through anatomical understanding and embodied movement.
Julie Martin and Gary Carter combine Gary’s in-depth knowledge of tensegrity, fascial relationships and structural adaptability with Julie’s guided movement, sensory awareness and somatic exploration. Theory becomes tangible, and movement becomes an intelligent dialogue with gravity
What we will explore
- The feet in the upright response
- Tensegrity and gravity as collaborative forces
- Coming from above and coming from below
- Touch and yielding to the earth
- Maintaining space in the joints
- Atem als Auftrieb und Unterstützung
- Breath as lift and lightness
This weekend will total 12 hours of continuing education.. It is practical and immediately applicable for students and teachers alike. Rather than lecture-heavy learning, we will prioritise embodied experience, sensation-led inquiry, and intelligent movement that arises from within.
Who This Weekend Is For
- Yoga teachers and trainees seeking deeper anatomical and somatic intelligence
- Movement educators and bodyworkers curious to explore fascia, tensegrity and gravity in a practical and immediately applicable way
- Practitioners who wish to move beyond lecture, into direct embodied experience — less talk, more sensing, more doing
- Anyone curious how to integrate breath, buoyancy, yield, space and structural intelligence into their movement or teaching
No prior anatomy or somatics training required — just an open mind, a willingness to explore, and a grounded sense of curiosity.
Schedule
FRIDAY, 20 MARCH:
18:00 – 20:00 | Arrival Practice with Julie
A gentle but enlivening movement session to awaken sensory intelligence, soften habitual effort, and attune the body to receive information through felt experience rather than analysis.
SATURDAY, 21 MARCH:
13:00 – 15:30 | Session with Gary (Natural Bodies)
Exploring tensegrity, gravity, the upright response of the feet, and the architectural organisation of support.
15:30 – 15:45 | Break
15:45 – 18:00 | Session with Julie. Somatic exploration, movement puzzles, and guided language that transforms anatomical principles into embodied, intuitive understanding.
SUNDAY, 22 MARCH:
12:00 – 14:30 | Session with Gary (Natural Bodies)
Fascial continuity, load distribution, joint spaciousness, internal lift, and buoyancy through the tissue web.
14:30 – 14:45 | Break
14:45 – 17:00 | Session with Julie
Yield, breath, touch, spaciousness, and playful integration of the weekend’s enquiries — closing with embodied synthesis rather than conclusion.
